It was only five months ago since I last visited this island. I loved it so much that I immediately grabbed the opportunity to go back. This time around, I stayed in another beach resort which was located at the other side of the island.

The First Anniversary of My Weblog

I reviewed my weblog and realized one thing that I had fun last year. I went to Bohol and Boracay for the first time. I saw and swam with dolphins for the first time. I had the chance to follow my childhood dream which was to own a (DSLR) camera and take amazing photographs. I bought a motorcycle which was really fun and economical.

I thanked God for the blessing that He showered upon me.

Apo Virgin

An Apo Virgin is a person who has seen an Apo Hiking Society Concert for the first time. The definition is by Danny Javier.

I was an Apo Virgin.

I didn’t know that Apo Hiking Society was having concert. I was just saying hello to friends via Yahoo Messenger and informing them that I was back in town. They told me right there and then that they were going to watch the concert. They asked me if I was interested in watching. I was not going to pass up another APO concert. And I was super duper glad that I didn’t.

The concert was for the benefit of the flood victims of the recent flooding in our city.

Last night, we celebrated my friend’s birthday at her house. It was another picture/video taking event. There was a lot of dancing to the tune of Christmas songs.

I had a sip of wine. It was just a sip because I was trying to not drink and drive.

Look in the Sky

I was hanging around at the house’s veranda-slash-roof deck. I looked up at the sky on the river side and I saw two eagle-like birds soaring around. I said eagle-like because I’m not sure if they were eagles or different species. I was so surprised to see the two huge birds near our house. I went down hastily to get my camera. But when I got back to the veranda, the two birds were already so far away from me and couldn’t be seen anymore by my camera.

So, what I have here is just the sky.

The Street Sign

After two hours of tush-breaking motorcycle ride with my mom, my cousin and myself, we arrived at my dad’s home town. We were there to visit my grandparent’s grave for an early All Soul’s Day celebration. After saying a prayer for our dearly departed and while my mom was waiting for the grave site to be repainted, my cousin and I went around the town to find a small sari-sari store to buy drinks in order to quench our thirst.

As we went around the bend, my cousin said to me, “Uy, imong dalan!” (Hey, it’s your street!)

I looked at the street sign and it said, “Hallazgo St.”

That’s my family name. And on that same street, we found a small restaurant. We stopped and went in the restaurant to buy drinks. The wind was cool because the sea was just meters away from the restaurant. We hanged around for a bit to relax and enjoy the breeze.

Hallazgo is a spanish word. And it means discovery.

This is what I bought for my birthday. It’s an early birthday present to myself so to speak. If I were given a chance to pick between two wheel and four wheel vehicles, I would probably pick a four wheel vehicle but in this case I choose to have a motorcycle because it’s less expensive, fuel efficient and more environment friendly than the any four-wheel that I can afford to buy. My cousin was with me when I bought it. He’s more of an expert in motorcycles because he already has two of them. I thank God that I have a cousin who I can ask for help in buying stuff like this. He’s more like an older brother than a cousin.

I returned my Olympus stylus 850 to the dealer to get it fixed. When I took it underwater while I was swimming with the dolphins, the sea water got inside the battery slot and it got ruined. I was testing the camera if it was really waterproof as it claimed to be. Even if a voice in my head was saying not to take it underwater water, I took it anyway. Now, I have to wait two months for it to get fixed. I thank God for the warranty.

Moral of the story: Listen to your instincts.

Boracay

I spent a day and a night in Boracay with my mom and some of her friends. It was my first time in the island. So, you can just imagine how excited I was. After settling in our room, I immediately changed to my beach attire and went out to look for the beach. I got lost at first but after some inquiry, finally I saw the beach. It was like happiness wrapped in white sand. I was like Jim Caviezel in the movie, The Count of Monte Cristo, when he just escaped from prison and landed in an island. I was too embarrassed to jump up and down though. I just smiled and took pictures and started to explore the island and the shops.

The Bohol Adventure

Welcome to the beautiful island of Bohol.

My mom and her officemates were going to Bohol. My cousin and I were lucky enough to tag along.

On our first day, we’ve visited first the Blood Compact Monument in Bool. I bought a hat here because it was really quite hot and I forgot bring one. There were vendors right on the side of monument where you can buy souvenirs and stuff.

Next stop was the oldest church in Bohol which was located in Baclayon.

At the manmade forest in Bilar, we said hello to the famous tarsier.

Then we went to the see the Chocolate Hills of Bohol.

This is the best way to see the hills. *laughing out loud*

But if you are afraid of heights, you can see the beauty of these hills at Sagbayan Peak. You need to climb couple of steps though.

On the second day of our tour, I woke up early and ate breakfast in my sleeping outfit while someone else was in the bath room. I was the last one to take a bath. It was a swift bath because the bus had already arrived when I entered the bath room. Ironically though, we all waited for about an hour and a half before the bus moved an inch. There was some accounting to settle. After the long wait, we finally get to move on.
We went to the Hinagdanan Cave first. There was a pool inside the cave. It was a fairly big pool of water. I wanted to take a dip but we were running out of time. Then, we hurriedly had taken a look at one of the beaches of Panglao Island.

I wanted to swim in the water but it was lunch time already and our lunch was waiting for at the floating restaurant at Loboc. When we got there, the eat-all-you-can lunch was very much appreciated. After the lunch was almost over, the river boat took us upstream to the Ati Tribe.

After the river cruise, we went to Badiang Spring in Valencia. I finally was able to take a dip in sea water and spring water. But it was a short dip because we had to go back to the bus and people were waiting for us. We went back to Baclayon Church since other people had not yet seen the museum located at the side of the church. My mom, my cousin and I didn’t go with them because we were too tired. My mom and I went to the seaside instead which was right in front of the church. My mom told me that about the town in Bohol, which was the home town of my grandmother. She also shared to me the time when lola (grandma) took her and her brother to Bohol in year 1960. She told me that she and her brother swam in a pool near her grandparents’ house. It was beautiful then but when she came back in the late 1990’s the pool was no longer taken care of. It wasn’t as beautiful as she remembered it. After our little stop at the church, we went Island City Mall in Tagbilaran to eat dinner and do some shopping for pasalubong (souvenirs and Bohol delicacies for family and friends).

People Power Revolution Anniversary

Have I experienced EDSA revolution 1 first hand? NO, I haven’t. I was just young girl when it happened. I only read about it in history books and seen it on TV.

I was just pondering on these thoughts. If Ninoy was not killed, will there had been a revolution? If the people of the Philippines had not reacted to the death of Ninoy through a revolutionary act called people power, will there had been a change in our government? My answer to these questions is NO. Think about It. If the people didn’t react, the violence and injustice would still continue. If people hadn’t gone out of the streets and protested their defiance against the Marcos regime, then it would have been a different story.

Now with regard to our present situation, we are all moved by the confession of Rodolfo “Jun” Lozada Jr. But what are we going to do with this sudden eruption of patriotism? What are we going to do? Are we going to just sit here and wait? For what? For the present government to grow a conscience? Are we going to just trust them to do the right thing? Have they done the right thing? I know that we are busy with our lives. But in the long run, we are still the ones who are going to pay for these people’s corrupt practices. Who do you supposed are the ones who will be paying for this millions of dollars? Yes! People of the Philippines, we are the ones who are going to be paying. WE, our children, our children’s children and so forth are the ones who are going to pay for all of these. Then, how can we expect to see this beloved country of ours to flourish into a great one, when we don’t do anything about it?

In the first place, why is it always the corrupt officials who get to be in power? How come? Oh yeah, we voted of them. Yes folks! We put there names in ballot. Why? Because we saw them on TV, which costs about millions and in return the candidates must get back their investments. How? You do the math. Hence, the cycle of corruption, which dated back to our forefathers, continues.

*sigh*

Enough with the drama, as they say. Let’s talk about Philippine showbiz instead. Aaah.. The training ground for future politicians where kids will learn how to lie with a smile on their faces.

This morning, my mom, my sister’s boyfriend and I escorted my sister to the airport. She will be working abroad for a year. My mom was a bit teary-eyed when we said our good-byes to my sister. My mom then said to her old officemate, who was with my sister during this trip, to watch over her.

I hope that my sister will be alright and well. I hope that God will guide her always and keep her away from harms way. I hope that she will come home safe and sound.
